Translation Manager – R12

The Translation Manager tool gives users the ability to use the CMiC Enterprise System in different languages. The tool will include two base languages, French and Spanish, which have been released in patch 15-1 for Enterprise customers. This feature is not available to Cloud customers.

Note Jasper Reports are currently not affected by Translation Manager functionality and will continue to function as usual.

The Translation Manager tool is used to create translations for languages not provided by CMiC, or copy CMiC-provided translations, such as French or Spanish, to use them as a base for the user's own translations. All data is saved automatically once a user navigates out of an edited field or if the Enter key is pressed on the keyboard. Once a translation for a language has been created and installed, the user's default language can be switched to the new language using the User Settings pop-up window launched off the console, or by using the User Preferences screen in the System Data module.

Base Language vs Country-Specific Language

There are base languages and their associated country-specific variants. For example, a base language would be French or Spanish, and their country-specific variant would be French Canada, French France, Spanish Spain, Spanish Mexico, etc.

CMiC can provide translations for base languages only, but users will not be able to create or modify base language translations. Instead, they can create translations for country-specific languages.

For example, CMiC provides translations for French as a base language. If clients want to customize it, they should use a country-specific language (like "French Canada"), to provide their own French translation.

Note When a country-specific language is used, the base language translation will be used if a country-specific translation is not provided for a specific object.

Workflow of the Translation Manager

Once this functionality is released, there are three ways that it can be used:

  1. Using CMIC-provided translations, known as base languages. Details for changing the default language can be found in Changing the Default Language for a User.

  2. Customizing one of the CMiC-provided translations and creating country-specific variants. Details can be found in Customize CMiC's Provided Base Languages by Overriding Specific Translations Only.

  3. Creating your own translation for languages not provided by CMiC, such as Portuguese Brazil. Details can be found in Using a Dictionary to Create Translations for Languages Not Provided by CMiC.

Note Manually reviewing the translations and checking the 'Verified' box to confirm the accuracy of the translation is an important step in the process. Please see Verified – Checkbox for further details. The verification process is also described in the Verification section of Edit Menu.
