Construct BIM - Getting Started

System Requirements

  • Browser: Latest version of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, or Microsoft Edge.

  • Internet Connection: Stable internet connection required.

Accessing Construct BIM

Accessing Construct BIM from CMiC Collaborate

Follow these steps to access Construct BIM:

  1. Open your preferred web browser.

  2. Navigate to the CMiC Collaborate console.

  3. Log in with your user credentials.

    • Ensure your project is published to Gateway.

    • Make sure you are invited to the project.

  4. From the drop-down, select "Construct BIM".

User Interface

The user interface is divided into the following areas:

  • Buttons

  • Project Selector

  • Navigation Panel

  • Workspace

Buttons

At the top of the screen, you’ll find the following buttons.

New Folder - Button

This button is used to create a new folder. Refer to Creating New Folders to learn more.

Upload File - Button

This button is used to upload a model file. Refer to Uploading Files to learn more.

Open - Button

This button appears when one or more model files is selected. It is used to open a selected model for viewing. Refer to Opening Files to learn more.

Delete - Button

This button appears when one or more model files is selected, or when one or more folders is selected. It is used to delete a selected model file or folder.

Project Selector

Selecting a project

Click this field to select a project from the list of available projects in the drop-down menu.

Construct BIM Navigation panel

The Navigation Panel allows for quick access to folders.

Workspace

This is the central area where you will interact with your model files and folders.

List/Grid View - Toggle

Switching between List and Grid view

This toggle is used to change how files and folders are displayed. You can switch between List or Grid view.

Search

Search for a folder or model file

The Search bar is used to search for a folder or model file.

Filters

Filtering search results

Filters are available to narrow down which folders and model files are shown. You can filter by version, date, type, and user.

Columns

Show/hide columns

The Columns field allows you to select which columns are displayed. Select individual columns or use the 'Show All Columns' box to display all columns.

Model Visualization

View your BIM models in various display modes (e.g., X-ray, wireframe, hidden line, shaded, shaded with lines, and sections).

Choose how to navigate your model (e.g., orbit camera, turntable, walk).

Explode

Explode your model objects for a better understanding of components and for presentation purposes.

Markup

Markup your view and take snapshots to share with others (e.g., circle, rectangle, note, freehand).

Settings

Change default viewer settings like frame rate, effects, and colors.

Model Tree

The BIM model tree allows you to do the following:

  • View your model collapsed to Level > Family > Type > Instance.

  • Apply colors for comparison.

  • Hide/Unhide Level > Family > Type > Instance.

  • Access views created in the native software.
