Microsoft® Integration Package - Frequently Asked Questions

Will it work with all CMiC modules?

MIP Word and Excel® integration is available in CMiC Enterprise regardless of the module, but a view to support the document may be required.

Is Office 2007 required only to create the docx/xlsx files? That is, can I create the files in 2007 and still allow those with Office 2003 (with the compatibility pack) to run/view the documents?

Yes. While Office 2007 or later versions is recommended, the compatibility pack will still allow users to create and view a document running Office 2003.

NOTE: In order to edit or view the DOCX/XLSX/XLSM files using MS Office® 97, XP, or 2003 it is necessary to install the free Microsoft Office® Compatibility Pack for Word®, Excel®, and PowerPoint® 2007 file formats plug-in. Instructions for doing so can be found in the URL below.

The actual plug-in installation file, FileFormatConverters.exe, can be downloaded from this site.

What are the future plans for MIP in relation to Enterprise? Will the feature be available as a full replacement of form letters?

There are no current plans for a complete replacement. Form letters is still required as the back end for Word document development. There are things that form letters can do that MIP currently cannot do (e.g., true form letters sent to multiple recipients with each recipient’s name and address in the heading).

What is the price of MIP?

Please contact your sales executive (or sales@cmic.ca) to discuss price and available payment options.

Does CMiC provide any literature or training on Microsoft® Security for exporting to Word®/Excel®, or are we responsible for obtaining that on our own?

This information is only documented and supported within the applicable Microsoft® products.

Macros are blocked by Default in Microsoft 365. How can I unblock the exported files I need?

Microsoft blocks macros by default in Microsoft 365. This could prove to be an issue when exporting an Excel template with macros using the MIP feature in JSP and ADF. This is a fairly common feature across most logs. Microsoft blocks this by default, but there is a way to add a specific domain (like cmiccloud.com) as a trusted domain to work around this. Detailed steps can be found in the Unblock All Files From a Specific Network Share or Website section of the Microsoft Support article found here.

How do I fix layout problems when converting a MIP template to PDF?

When converting a MIP to PDF, there can be layout problems due to a mismatch of the original font. If the layout is drastically different, its recommended to embed the fonts in the template and upload it to CMiC. Detailed steps can be found in Microsoft® Integration Package - Embedding Fonts in a MIP Template.

Where can I download GCS templates for Pay Request?

GCS templates can be downloaded here: Microsoft® Integration Package - GCS Templates for Collaborate Pay Request.

Are User Defined Fields (UDFs) available in Form Letters/MIP? Where is the data of the UDFs stored?

UDF fields are stored in the SDOBJUSREXTVALUE table which can be used as a data source for MIPs and are joined on the oraseq columns.

If the UDFs are linked to the detail record and not the master records, then creating a custom data source in BI Catalog Builder to use as a data source is the only way to add the UDFs to MIPs. For example, if you create a data source called "User Defined View" from JCDETAIL and include two UDFs. It will become available under Register Form Letter Data Sources, which allows you to poll those UDFs to MIP.

If the UDFs were linked to the master record, you can add and use SDOBJUSREXTVALUE as a data source.
