US Payroll - Dual Wage Level Classification
Pgm: PYDUAL_WAGE_LEVEL – Dual Wage Level Classification; standard Treeview path: US Payroll > Administration > Worker Compensation > Dual Wage Level Classification
The Dual Wage Level Classification screen provides a method for reporting workers’ compensation to payroll. While the descriptions of the operations remain the same, each classification has two codes, depending on the regular hourly wage paid to each employee in any given pay period. For example, a painting contractor would report their employees’ payroll as follows:
-
Code 5474, Painting – All employees with regular hourly wages of $23.99 or less per hour.
-
Code 5482, Painting – All employees with regular hourly wages of $24.00 or more per hour.
To determine the classification code for salaried employees, their earnings should be divided by the number of hours in the salary period. This screen can then be used to define higher and lower rated workers’ compensation codes, the effective start date, and the hourly rate.
Processing
Prior to timesheet posting, the posting procedure finds any timesheet record that has a higher rated workers’ compensation code than that listed in the Dual Wage Level Classification screen before carrying out the following procedure:
-
Get the timesheet employee pay rate.
-
Calculate the total fringe benefits per hour and add it to the timesheet employee pay rate.
-
Compare the new employee pay rate to the hourly rate defined on the Dual Wage Level Classification screen.
-
If the employee pay rate is equal or greater than the hourly rate, then pick the higher rated code.
-
If employee pay rate is less than the hourly rate, then pick the lower rated code.
